P90x Review – Insanity Workout Month 1 Overview
Jul 14, 2011
The Insanity Workout is based on two one-month intervals of training. The workout routine by Shaun T. is designed to burn a huge amount of calories while upping endurance levels at the same time. Here is p90x review of month 1 and what to expect from the 10 DVDs, guides, and calendar.
Month 1 starts off a little shaky for those not in complete shapes. It takes a lot of hard work and determination to work out six days a week at such high intensities. Fitness goals are pretty easy to reach during the first month of the program especially for those looking to gain strength and lose unwanted fat.
To begin, everyone starts off with a fitness test to see where they stand. This test is repeated every two weeks to monitor progression. There is a lot of stretching to do. It’s not as easy as it sounds but it’s definitely needed before working out. The stretching periods are a warm up for what is to follow. Even these get the heart rate up and make people sweat. Warm-ups last about 10 minutes at a time.
At the beginning of the month, the program completely wipes people out. Most are left a little sore and wondering what they’ve gotten themselves into – even those used to running a few miles every week and doing a routine workout. Muscles are completely worked; this is where the soreness comes in. Many muscles that people aren’t used to working are targeted.
By the end of week 1, it’s pretty obvious that week 2 is going to be more intense. Each week during the first month is a great preparation for the higher intensity workouts that follow. A lot of cardio and muscle defining work is done. After each workout the tiredness and soreness lessens a little more until the workouts are completely bearable to get through.
The lower body gets a ton of work during the first 30 days. Workouts include a lot of lunges, jumps, and squats. The torso and legs are worked out really well and it’s easy to see changes. The pace picks up pretty steadily and it’s hard to wait for each scheduled water break at first. As times goes by endurance levels increase and keeping up with the pace of the DVD becomes easier.
The rest of the workouts for the first month focus on a lot of cardio. This includes cardio abs, pure cardio, cardio energy, and cardio recovery. Plyometrics are thrown into the mix as well. At the end of month 1 there is a one-week recovery period. A recovery DVD is included with less intensity than the other DVDs.
Month 1 may seem a little crazy but wait for month 2. Month 1 is preparation for the next 30 days.
